Brass Bands on Twitter

If you’re a brass bander, but haven’t yet joined the Twitter revolution then you could be missing out on a fantastic way to get updates from and participate in the wider banding community. The Official Twitter Logo

Even within our local area, bands are popping up on Twitter with their own accounts and are using them to promote concerts, talk about contesting, advertise vacancies etc. We’ve started a Twitter list of bands in Oxfordshire – so far there are only 5 of us on there (and if you know of any we’ve missed, please tell us!). We’re finding that lots of local businesses and organisations are increasingly using the service too, so by joining in as a band it’s a great way to get yourselves known and of course may lead to the occasional gig!

Larger brass band organisations also have a presence on Twitter – for example, the @4barsrest account contains a whole range of brass band news, classifieds, vacancy information and best of all they regularly send Tweets complete with photos live from the major contests.

If this appeals to you and you decide to sign-up for a Twitter account, here are some great brass band Tweeters for you to get started with:

Last but not least of course, you can find us here – @abbey_brass.

Happy Tweeting!
