2017 has been a great year for Abbey Brass, celebrating 40 years of the band with concerts, anniversary beer, the launch of our fundraising for a new bandroom and a huge list of new learners coming into the organisation.
The Main Band have been part of 4 concerts, in February we started the year with a concert at Christchurch Barn and then a joint concert with Abingdon Concert Band to celebrate both bands 40th anniversary, later in the year the Main Band and Training Band joined forces to celebrate the bands birthday and we then finished the year with a Christmas Concert as guests of the Wootton Warblers. In addition to these wonderful concerts we also performed at the Nags Head to promote our anniversary beer ‘HornBlower’ and our annual trip to Henley Bandstand was a great, if not a little windy, afternoon. With the band also playing in the Market Square while we sold cakes to the passers by which helped raise some money towards the new bandroom.
Whit Friday was great fun as always and stayed dry, the bands performance at the area contest in March was rewarded with an 11th place for the band and Harwell Feast was very well attended and enjoyed.
For the Training Band, they performed at the Wootton Festival, the 40th Anniversary Concert, Appleton Fete, Abbey Brass Tea Party and Christmas Social – the numbers in the training band have grown and the band sounded great.
Some of the Learners also played at the Tea Party and at the Christmas Social and sounded really impressive, we all look forward to hearing them again in 2018.
This is just a quick roundup of the events of 2017.
